Mid Devon is perhaps one of the least known areas of Devon – and one of it's best kept secrets - it's one of our favourites and absolutely perfect for a short break or family holiday.

Although set away from the busy seaside resorts, it nestles between the wonderful national parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor, Mid Devon offers the perfect place for those looking for a peaceful holiday surrounded by some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside in Devon and the UK.

What ever time of year - spring, autumn or high summer - the absence of crowds and the lack of traffic, gives Mid Devon its sense of peace and tranquillity. With rolling countryside, winding country lanes and hidden villages and market towns all waiting to be discovered, a visit here is a trip to deepest Devon.

Mid Devon has a wonderful mix of scenery, with rolling hill country around Crediton and Tiverton area contrasting with the more gentle open countryside found in the Culm Valley.  The 350 square miles of rivers and hills have a winding network of leafy lanes and quiet roads which lead to remote farms and pretty cob and thatch villages – many with a friendly local pub.... perfect!

In this mixed countryside you will find the Grand Western Canal Country Park, as well as old agricultural villages perched on hilltops or tucked away in quiet valleys.  The River Exe bisects Mid Devon, starting from Exmoor it weaves its way through the county to Tiverton and joining the sea at Exmouth. The eastern most point of Mid Devon lies in the Blackdown Hills which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The key features of Mid Devon is its central location and peaceful unspoilt situation, making it the perfect base for exploring the West Country.  Less than hours drive from almost anywhere in Mid Devon will bring you to some of the finest scenery the UK has to offer – from Exmoor to Dartmoor – the cliff scenery of the north coast or the softer bays of the south coast resorts.

Whether its strolling around the villages and towns, visiting the many attractions or simply exploring the countryside, a journey through Mid Devon will be one of contrasts and surprises.
