The pretty whitewashed village of Hawkshead is surely one of the most picturesque in the lakes, set amidst spectacular lakeland scenery.� The cobbled streets are home to four traditional inns, serving a host of great local beers and good food, tea rooms an interesting shops, including the home of Hawkshead clothing and the award winning Hawkshead Relish company.� A wide range of excellent walks can be enjoyed from your door, to Esthwaite Water, stunning Tarn Hows and bike/walk trails in Grizedale Forest.� Hilltop, the home of Beatrix Potter and Far Sawrey, from where you can take the passenger/car ferry to the tourist hotspots of Bowness and Windermere, are both nearby.� Also within easy reach are Grasmere, the home of Wordsworth, Coniston and the Langdales, offering more challenging walks and outdoor activities.
